Down With The Russians! EP
This mix is about how I’m breaking up with you.
Why It’s Pretentious: I CALLED IT AN EP, YOU GUYS. Also, my friends and I referred to people as countries because we thought it was cool. (Wasn’t.) (I have nothing against real Russians.) (I like their hats.) I know this mix was a pretty jerk move. I knew that back then and I kind of regret it now. But he decided “Feel Good, Inc.” was our song, my high school self howls, grabbing present me by the collar. And he wanted to be a wrestler.
Well played, high school me. Well played.

Leave the Sleeper
This mix is about Sydney Carton from A Tale of Two Cities.
Why It’s Pretentious: I adored Tale of Two Cities because I like really long drawn out stories with overindulgent characterizations and little, if any, distinguishable plot. And also moody misunderstood criminals who sacrifice themselves for the one they love. The title comes from the scene in which Carton tells Lucie that he’s hopelessly in love with her: “Since I knew you… I have had unformed ideas of striving afresh, beginning anew, shaking off sloth and sensuality, and fighting out the abandoned fight. A dream, all a dream, that ends in nothing, and leaves the sleeper where he lay down, but I wish you to know that you inspired it.” I mean, SWOON.

Thornton in My Side
This mix is about god I hate you why are you so annoying.
Why It’s Pretentious: So in high school, there was this girl whose name rhymed with Shmate Smornton who I hated more than anything in the world because she was antagonistic for no apparent reason. Also, she kept undermining my authority as Sophomore Class President. It’s like, you’re a senior, get over yourself. AMIRITE? (Yes.) If you hated anyone in 2006 but also knew you were way cooler than them, these were your jams. Shmate Smornton, you done been PUNished.

Ridicule is Nothing to Be Scared Of
This mix is about how I wish I were British.
Why It’s Pretentious: I watched a lot of Skins and British indie films in high school. Therefore, I had a very skewed view of what life should be like. Namely, I was confused as to why everyone else didn’t frequently use British slang, wear cardigans, and fork over obscene amounts of cash for 7”s of then-obscure bands on eBay. Anyway, I made this mix for a friend’s birthday. She liked Foals, so she showed promise. It’s actually pretty good, except for when I end it with a random GRIME REMIX.
…But really, how am I supposed to resist a band named after a Street Fighter move?!
