Indefinitely
This mix is about a relationship, from the chase to the wedding.
Why It’s Pretentious: It starts with some latin jazz-inspired pop, hits some garage rock and Smiths/Coldplay covers, and then ends with some big band. What about that is not pretentious? Actually, it technically starts off with a drunken ramble by Frank Sinatra because… I’m not sure. Also, the title makes no sense whatsoever. I’ll love you… indefinitely? You know, for the foreseeable future, but who knows what’ll happen? Real romantic, high school self… Happy Valentine’s weekend from 2005.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!
This mix is about how I want to cheer you up when you’re feeling stressed.
Why It’s Pretentious: Obviously, I named this after the mid-2000s buzz band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. And yet it contains no songs by CYHSY. (Unintentional irony? We’re walking a thin line here.) It does, however, contain all songs with hand claps in them because FACT: you are incapable of frowning while listening to songs with hand claps in them. It’s also pretentious because I refer to them as hand claps. It’s like, what else are you supposed to clap with? These are the things that keep me up at night.

At Last! At Last! At Last! (Side One: Pants. I Dream of Pants.)
This mix is about the people who take care of you.
Why It’s Pretentious: Tumblr! I’m sorry I had to take last week off for finals and milkshake-making, but I’m back! In case you didn’t know, yesterday was Mother’s Day. If your eyes just got really wide, don’t worry I got chu. Today’s mix is a mother’s day gift from a couple years ago. I didn’t actually give it to my real mom, I gave it to a friend of mine who took care of me during a rough time, BUT NONETHELESS. It’s a sleepy little mix meant to be listened to when you’ve just woken up on Sunday morning, so don’t leave your bed til it’s over, alright? (Vegetable puns courtesy of the Beach Boys.)

Pretty Much Amazing
This mix is about how school is over and it’s summertime!
Why It’s Pretentious: Yeah, I could get you a frame or stationary set for your grad present, OR I COULD MAKE YOU A REALLY AWESOME MIXTAPE. As you can tell from the title, this mix was obviously about me and some of the pop songs I liked throughout my high school career, though I did stick some terrible songs on there to appease the masses (I’m looking at you, “Welcome 2 The World”). Also, I was horrified that “Don’t Stop Believing” was our senior song — this was in the pre-Glee days — but I compromised by adding a really low-quality electro remix.

1. I Am The Heart That You Call Home
This mix is about the first day of school, freshmen year of college.
Why It’s Pretentious: Remember when I kept up this blog and it was awesome because you got new music from 2-4 years ago but then I moved into my own house and started a milkshake truck and sort of dropped off the face of the world? DON’T EVEN WORRY ABOUT IT CAUSE I’M BACK.
This is one of my favorite mixes from the past few years. If I play you one of my tapes, it’ll probably be this one because it’s overtly cheerful yet also raises deep questions: Remember when music critics started treating “Ivy League” like a musical genre? Remember when you thought it was okay to put 3 Miles Fisher songs on one mix because you his EP had 4 songs, so you were being selective? Remember when you thought taking the midnight Greyhound to Cincinnati by yourself was a good idea? PROTIP: it’s not.
