Spring Break Heartache: The Musical
This mix is about spring break heartaches.
Why It’s Pretentious: Guys, I am REALLY EXCITED about this mix. I’ve been working on it for forever and it’s finally where I want it to be. I started it as a tribute to one of the greatest songs in the history of the world: Spring Break Heartache by Blown Stag. According to their bio, band members Tommy Thrust, Bitch Romney, Chris, and the Squish, form “a timeless musical justice that echoes down into the tubes of the music industry.” I went to their single release show a few weeks ago and 95% of ladies there left pregnant, simply due to the cacophony of sexual energy unleashed by their songs. One girl just immediately had triplets, right there on the dance floor. True story.
What you’ll find here is a series of vignettes about love and loss in early to mid March of 1985, of trysts on the beach and prostitutes in back alleyways. There are some really great surprises in here that I think exquisitely sum up the spring break experience, sort of like a musical roofie in your Mai Tai Mix Tape. (Now is as good a time as any to mention that the extended title of this mix is GIRL$ GIRL$ GIRL$: Spring Break Heartache: The Musical.) I hope this mix finds you wearing track suits and ray-bans and gold chain medallion necklaces, or neon booty shorts and bikinis. Double-fisting cheap beer and fruity drinks. Unsuccessfully hitting on someone foxy and nursing that spring break heartache with rock and roll.
