At Last! At Last! At Last! (Side One: Pants. I Dream of Pants.)

This mix is about the people who take care of you.

Why It’s Pretentious: Tumblr! I’m sorry I had to take last week off for finals and milkshake-making, but I’m back! In case you didn’t know, yesterday was Mother’s Day. If your eyes just got really wide, don’t worry I got chu. Today’s mix is a mother’s day gift from a couple years ago. I didn’t actually give it to my real mom, I gave it to a friend of mine who took care of me during a rough time, BUT NONETHELESS. It’s a sleepy little mix meant to be listened to when you’ve just woken up on Sunday morning, so don’t leave your bed til it’s over, alright? (Vegetable puns courtesy of the Beach Boys.)

Pretty Much Amazing

This mix is about how school is over and it’s summertime!

Why It’s Pretentious: Yeah, I could get you a frame or stationary set for your grad present, OR I COULD MAKE YOU A REALLY AWESOME MIXTAPE. As you can tell from the title, this mix was obviously about me and some of the pop songs I liked throughout my high school career, though I did stick some terrible songs on there to appease the masses (I’m looking at you, “Welcome 2 The World”). Also, I was horrified that “Don’t Stop Believing” was our senior song — this was in the pre-Glee days — but I compromised by adding a really low-quality electro remix.

Whikachawah

This mix is about GET READY TO UP AND DANCE, Y’ALL.

Why it’s Pretentious: You guys, I’ve lived in Nashville for three years now and I’m starting to say things like y’all on a regular basis. Only in my head though, which is good. Also, in my head, I toss the dice every time I say it, which makes me more ghetto than Southern, right? Anyway, it’s Labor Day Weekend, so let’s get our party on circa 2007. You can tell I didn’t think this mix would make it very far because I called it “Whikachawah,” which is a) not a good name and b) misspelled. But how I underestimated a playlist featuring both Foals and the Bee Gees is beyond me. This is, at the very least, a solid bronze effort to party.

Vinyl Sticker, Big Block Letters

This mix is about narrowly avoided friendship break-ups.

Why It’s Pretentious: No high school friendship is complete without some major drama. When my best friend and I had a huge fight in senior year, I spent the night doing the only thing I know how to do to when I’m upset, i.e., mixtaping and expressing my feelings via The Pussycat Dolls. In true high school fashion, I can’t remember what we were fighting about about and by the morning, everything was resolved. On the other hand, “The District Sleeps Alone Tonight” has never been the same since. Actually, this mix was never supposed to see the light of day — she doesn’t even know it exists — but I kind of dig its pathetic electronic blues, so. Happy Monday!
