Formative Years

This mix is by Miss Moss and is about growing up making tapes in the 90s.

Why It’s Pretentious: Sometimes, I think I was born a little late. I only caught the end part of the tape era, but that’s what’s always stuck with me— not CDs or miniDiscs or even iPods. This is the music I grew up on. Story goes, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was the first song I ever danced to. I remember listening to No Doubt in Aventura Mall, the Red Hot Chili Peppers in Li’l Caesars, Beck in Michaelangelo’s Pizza. When my mom brought home The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and my dad introduced me to The Cure. This mix would’ve been right at home in my purple and yellow Pokemon walkman. In fact, I’m probably gonna tape it right now.

Crosswords and Coffee

This mix is about getting back to the grind on Monday mornings, coffee, and crossword puzzles.

Why It’s Pretentious: So anyway, if you say nice things to me, I will probably make you a tape. Or at least a mix. This mix is for crosswordsandcoffee, who left me a nice note about my blog last week. YOU SEE, NOW THE THEME MAKES SENSE. Even though I made this over the weekend, I tried to keep it pretty high school. In other words, I started off acoustic only to end with two electronic/remix songs COMPLETELY OUT OF NOWHERE. Also, there’s a Smiths song. Also, in high school, I really wanted to make a mix about crosswords, but it never happened, so. Moral of the story: say nice things to me so I can procrastinate by fulfilling a high school mixtape dream!

RE: Questions about last week’s Backstreet Boys post (someone please explain to me why you can’t reply to things). Betsy, haha, it was about how I love the Backstreet Boys more than other people love the Backstreet Boys. Amy, of course we’re playing Slow Jams when you come to Nash! Awww yeah.
